TARGET AUDIENCE

Junior electrical staff involved, under supervision, in the installation, inspection and maintenance of electrical equipment in offshore oil & gas drilling and production facilities.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

To raise the levels of proficiency for personnel carrying out installation, inspection and maintenance of explosion protected electrical equipment for use in potentially explosive gas atmospheres.

COURSE CONTENT

  • General principles, and gas ignition properties
  • Common sources of ignition
  • Hazards and Ex safety on the drilling unit
  • Wiring systems, enclosure entries, cable glanding and earthing.
  • Methods of explosion protection for power equipment:- flameproof, increased safety, type ‘n’, pressurization and others
  • Intrinsic safety protection for instrumentation and control
  • What does the marking on the nameplate mean?
  • Specific installation requirements for the different methods
  • Inspection and Maintenance of Ex equipment
  • Safe isolation, permits to work, and gas tests.
  • Practical Assessments
  • Cable glanding and termination exercises
  • Ex nameplates
  • Installation of power equipment Ex ‘d’ , ‘e’ and ‘n’
  • Inspections of power equipment Ex ‘d’, ‘e’ and ‘n’
  • Installation of instrumentation system Ex ‘i’
  • Inspections of instrumentation systems Ex ‘i’

DELIVERY

Teaching aids, examples of Ex equipment, slides, videos, question papers, practical demonstrations, installation and inspection exercises.

CERTIFICATION

Certificate of completion of course, issued by Assets Training & Technical Services Pte. Ltd.

Certificates will indicate the level of proficiency attained, by grading achievement in Theory and Practical tests in installation and inspection of electrical and instrumentation equipment.

PRE REQUISITES FOR TRAINING

Candidates must have a formal electrical qualification, and be practicing ‘hands on’ electricians in the industry.
